Slaves to Darkness 3 - Mibyllorr Darkfang and Slaine!

Finished the last of me heroes for my Chaos. First up is Mibyllorr Darkfang. Great model. I will need to get round to doing the familiars at some stage.

I also managed to finish the model that reminds me of Slaine. I did have to fix the models backside and undercarriage with green stuff, but I am very happy with it.

And that is the last of the models for 2022!

I am planning, between beach visits, to start work on some actual units, so I will see how I go.

Thanks for looking!

Slaves to Darkness 2

Make a quick turn around on the next model for this warband, Holga Clovenhorn. Great model that was a pleasure to paint.

I didn't stray too far from the box, though with my own little additions. I will probably use this as a Chaos Lord in AoS.

Thanks for looking.

Finally some motivation Slaves to Darkness 1

Well, I haven't felt the pull of the brush for a long time. Unlike other times, I just welcomed the break, and knew when I was motivated, I would paint things that I wanted to. And that moment finally happened yesterday.

I finally finished assembling and priming my boxed set of the new Slaves to Darkness and felt inspired to paint the new Daemon Prince. I have been fortunate to play a few games against my friends Nighthaunt in the online campaign, Milarki.

So far I am not doing amazing, so hopefully some paint will change my fortunes!

So I finished painting Ommadon, the Daemon Prince.

Very happy with how he turned out, especially since it has been a long time since I did any OSL. I am now feeling like I will paint some more from the set.

Eldar update

I find it very weird that I only have a couple of posts about my eldar, but they are by far the most played army I have and I have painted a lot of it.

A month or so ago, I managed to finally finish two pieces for my eldar, the new Avatar of Khaine and some rangers. Since the new 9th edition book dropped for eldar, all my troops choices I had painted up, are now elite. So I needed to paint some to field a fully painted force again, and I just so happen to have a pile of metal rangers.

First up though, the avatar. Loved this model, and of course for nostalgia reasons, had to go with the classic look. I remember playing against this model tons of times in 2nd edition and it was always so hard to kill. To celebrate the finished model, I actually played a game with it recently against a friends Space Wolves, and this thing annihilated agressors, Bjorn, a redemptor deadnought and most of a Blood Claws pack just on its own before it died. An absolute beast.

The rangers I wanted to try sponging on camo for once. Kind of happy with how it turned out. Notice I have the crouching observing ranger which got released ages ago. They also did well in the game against the Space Wolves, sniping Ragnar before he got into combat.

So there we have it, a bit more complete for my eldar.

Lately (in the last week or so), I have been getting excited for 2nd Edition 40k. A friend has asked to play it so I have been updating and fixing my old Space Wolves. I will endeavour to post the updates here when I can.

Badab War Part 4 Final

I can't believe it has been 5 months since my last post! I have been very busy in my defense, and have quite a few updates to do. I really need to work out a system to regularly post. If you know of one, please let me know.

Still, I have painted my initial 1000 points or so force of Minotaurs for the campaign. Very happy with them.

Did a quick finish of the chaplain. Very cool model from Forge World.
A unit of multimelta devastators.
Finally, my bodyguard for Asterion Moloc. They count as thunder hammer and storm shields. The spears and shields are 3D prints from somewhere. The shoulder pads are press molds from Moloc before I painted him. Really happy with this unit and they look amazing.

Final army shot along with the extra drop pods for the force. A nice little force and very happy with them. I have no plans to expand them at present. I need more Crusade games at this level before they require some expansion. I plan of dropping the devastators by drop pod so they can draw eyes on their targets.

That brings me up to date for this project. Hopefully by the end of the week, I can provide another update!

Badab War part 3

Well I managed to achieve my hobby target and get my initial force of Minotuars finished in less than a week! Ready of course for their first engagements against my friends Lamenters.

Here I finished up the last characters for the starting force, Asterion Moloch and Hekaton Aikos.

Great model and very cool pose. Although in real life he isn't standing on some cheese, it is a lot less yellow! Again, apart from dry brushing armour, this was mainly done with contrasts to speed up the painting.

I also had to have a trophy on his base in Lamenter colours. It definitely had the desired effect when I shared it with my friend.
Hekaton Aikos, very cool dreadnough and actually the first ever contemptor I have ever painted I just realised.
The plasma glow was just dry brushing lighter tones of blue to near white.

Really liked the quick scheme and glad I managed to get it done in less than a week. The initial 'bronze' armour was very quick. Retributor Gold Spray, 2 to 3 washes of Agrax Gloss/normal Agrax, dry brush Hashut Copper.

The whole gang of 500 points ready to go. I will hopefully post up the pictures of the game I had with my friend.

I have some ideas on where to expand them, but may leave that bubbling away for the time being as we are probably going to play a few 500 point games for awhile, plus there is some Eldar needing my attention.

Badab War Part 2

Finished another squad for the Minotaurs, some grav caannon devastators. Again quite happy with the speed painting, bases, and my new found confidence with decals. Bodes well for the future.

That is all the infantry done for the first 500pts. Now onto the characters.

Start of a Badab War...

It was time to take a break from the Empire for Warhammer Fantasy. My friend has wanted to do some games set in the Badab War for ages, and now was the time to make a start.

We both picked the armies. My friend went for Lamenters and I went for the Minotaurs.

Since this army used to be my friends, I just copied his scheme and got into it. Quite refreshing to a quick paint scheme like this which also happens to be rather forgiving. I also found a use for my sand from Geek Gaming Scenics which worked well with these models. I also liked it as I have been watching a lot of Mandalorian and Boba Fett recently, and it just so happens this sand fits the dunes of Tattoine rather well.

So here is my first squad, to really get my eye in on the scheme. Nice and quick, as I wanted 500 points of these done rather quickly.

I also applied some decals, which is are for me as I have had a bad history with them. This time I used the Micro Sol and Micro Set, which as you might expect, worked well.
These all have the old Minotaurs shoulder pads from Forgeworld and the limited edition heavy bolter marine.

Quite like how they turned out. Next up will be some devastators.

Thanks for looking.

Updating some older Empire models

Since the very productive first three months netted me a whole pile of painted Empire for Warhammer Fantasy, I thought I would touch up the paint job and rebase my existing Knights and characters so it will all fit together. Not a massive job, but for the sake of completeness, necessary.

First up is the mounted Valten and Ludwig Schwarzhelm. Mainly have used these as an Empire Grandmaster and mounted BSB.

Next up my big unit of Knights Pather. A lot of them had chipped paint and they also required shields as originally I didn't get round to it. Now all ready for the battlefield.

Big knight unit with characters.

That is probably it for Empire for the short term. Time to move onto another project for some variety.

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 8 Final Post

Well it has been 3 months and I managed to do it. Painted all my planned Empire for the Army Project challenge. It has been great having a focus to get some models painted. These Empire have sat here for decades so it was nice to get them out and give them some love.

So here is the last post, the army photo of all I painted in these last three months.

All up here is well over 1200 points, not too bad. Really like the colour and the banners. The bases also really tie everything together, from the war wagon to the archers.

And just for kicks, did an army photo like from the old Warhammer Armies book.

Its been great fun doing this project. I expect next will be some games with this Empire force, or maybe even a campaign! We shall see.

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 7

Well I finally did it. Finished the last unit for the army challenge. The War Wagon. What an amazing model. From the wagon itself to the crew it is just amazing. I decided to paint it in the classic colours from the old White Dwarf. Painting the crew in those colours was such a pleasure, a riot of colour. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

The base is a custom resin print that a friend did for me, 65mm x 115mm. Perfect to fit everything on it.

Love the classic scheme for these uniforms, such fun to paint.

It still does need the banners, but I have not been able to find a good enough scan of them to use and print, and I don't have the skills to paint it from scratch. Hopefully I will be able to get them at some stage.

Glad to get it done and it is an amazing center piece model. My last post will be an army pic.

Thanks for looking!

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 6

Finally have a bit of an update. Work has been hectic so I haven't been as prolific as I would like, especially as I need to have it all done by the end of this month.

I have however, finished my basic 1000pts.

Finally got this unit done. This was a hard unit to paint, despite the rather nice models. Just getting time was the main factor here. Though I was focused and finished them before moving onto the last of the knights.

I didn't have any of the Empire Knights I could use as Reiksguard nor the funds to get any. A friend very graciously printed up some Highlands knights for me to use. The models are quite nice and definitely fit the Empire aesthetic. I also wanted to try something new and have a spiral lance, as I quite enjoyed the look of it. Again, it was my friends suggestion to use some masking tape (2mm to be precise) to get that smooth look. Rather easy process that turned out rather good.

I do need to do an army picture at some stage, though I will likely do that at the end of the month. I also have a couple more units to try and get done as extra credit before the end of the month. We shall see if I can get that done!

Thanks for looking!

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 5

Took a little longer to complete this unit but did get there in the end. Lovely models that were a pleasure to paint.

Did add a splash of red every now and again just for kicks. Not sure what the next unit will be, but am tempted to do the old Empire War Wagon. Shall see.

Thanks for looking.

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 4

Another unit finished for the slow grow campaign. This unit is actually for my 1500 point list, however, when inspiration strikes to paint some models, its best to ride it. (pun intended)

Here are some old outriders. In contrast to my other units, I painted this unit from the 5th edition images. I really like the colourful uniforms and yellow barding.

Such a joy to paint. They were a lot of fun.

The next unit will be some crossbowmen I think, but this was a fun and colourful distraction.
