Mordheim Maneater Warband

Apologies for the hiatus. As always I have been busy with painting, just not with updating. I feel that mentally sometimes I think typing this up is harder than it really is!

Still, the new year saw me get really into Bolt Action, but I will post my models of that another time.

This past Friday, the gaming group started a new Mordheim campaign, Empire in Flames. For this campaign, I decided to paint my awesome old Imperial Ogres and Halflings and use them as a Maneater warband. I mainly did this as I have wanted to paint them for ages, and I can now use them for my Empire army in TOW.

I decided to do them in different uniforms for the different provinces, as they are mercenaries and I thought it would look cool. Very happy with them.
I also painted up 2 of these for the warband. I figure in normal games they will accompany my cavalry as Heimerdinger's big cats. They had to be tigers as that is my sons favourite animal.
Some halflings done for the warband. They count as gnoblar fighters, but I have had these sitting there for decades. Unfortunately I only have 7, so I will have to track down a command group one day.

An here are some shots of the night. 10 players, 5 games on the go. My terrain was a big work in progress, but since my warband is complete, I can focus on that.

This amazing board was a pleasure to play on.
Ogres first game, I went straight for the heights!

Ogre game 2 against some Skaven.

Was good fun and lots of laughs.

 Thanks for looking.

Empire update and a Black Templar

The battles in the Badlands campaign have been ramping up. I really need to post some battle reports of them, which I shall do shortly.

In the meantime, I have been plugging away at some small hobby.

A friend printed some pavises which I really wanted to use for my crossbowmen. I thought they would be very cool. I did some research of some medieval ones and picked a design I liked. I wasn't too confident with the freehand, but I did source some Holy Roman Empire transfer that looked like they fit the job. Finally finished them today!

Very pleased with how they turned out.

I also finished the Empire special character on foot, von Lowenhacke. An absolute beast of  model.

Great model, though I did lose a part of the helmet, but I don't feel it is too obvious.

Lastly, I completed another Templar, just for a bit of fun.

I think my next updates will be posting the battles from the Badlands campaign we are in the midst of.

Thanks for looking.

Emperor Karl Franz

Finished another model for my Empire, the old (but not old old) Karl Franz on Deathclaw, circa Storm of Chaos 6th Edition days.

I've had this model since then. I remember I was playing High Elves with the Sea Guard list and also Empire. I received this model as birthday present from two very good friends at the time, so I am very glad to finally get it done after all this time!

I am very happy with how it turned out. The banner that he originally had in 4th Edition, I could not find anywhere, same with the 6th edition banner. In the end I went with a very old 3rd edition banner from a white dwarf that first published the Empire army, just before 4th edition came out. I quite like it!

I am also happy to say that in the latest Badlands Campaign game, he made his debut, and not only didn't perish straight away, but took out a stegadon and a bastilodon. So he was definitely man of the match (and mainly griffon too).

I am thinking next I might work on some Empire ogres, but we shall see.

Thanks for looking!

More Empire reinforcements

The energy remains high for the Empire.

After a great first game with them on the weekend in the Badlands campaign, I painted this unit up.

A unit of Demi gryph knights of the white wolf.

I used some old metal models I had, though the standard bearer was a conversion, as his original hammer was long gone. So I drilled it carefully and put an old lead Empire banner in there, which seems to work well with the pose.

 Anyways, thanks for looking.

Empire reinforcements

I have been really inspired in the last month to paint my Empire. So I have completed the following.

A very old mounted wizard. Needed something to keep up with the Knights Panther.

Two old metal cannons. Great models and crew.

The start of some Carroburg Greatswords. I have been wanting to paint this unit since finishing my initial Empire force.

I have also been fortunate in having played quite a few games of TOW. Last night, we played the end of season Blood in the Badlands Campaign game, with a siege on one table, and two other tables, with any winners, bringing on their survivors to take part in the siege. Great times!

I have also decided to have my Elven host in the campaign to set sail for fair Ulthuan, while my Empire now arrive to dig in. Really keen to have some campaign games with them.

Anyways, thanks for looking!

Empire vs High Elves Warhammer Army Project battle report

Firstly, I must give a thanks and an apologies for those wonderful people that have left comments on some of the posts I have done. I am unsure, but for some reason, I am unable to at present to comment on my own posts! A big thank you non the less.

As is customary for me, it has been awhile since the last post. Work, regrettably has consumed all my spare time, however, I have taken a much needed break and am on holidays for a few weeks. So I invited an old friend over to have a game of the greatest of all games, Warhammer Fantasy. We decided to do an old 5th edition scenario, Ambush. My Empire (2000 points), being ambushed by the neferious High Elves (1350 points).

I will add some rough commentary of the major events from the game in the photos I took, rather than a full blow by blow account. Hope you enjoy!

Battle ground is set. We decided that General Heimerdinger was keen to pry the gems of the old High Elf mansion with his Runefang. The High Elves, naturally, were quite affronted by this callous disregard for their heritage.

The Empire marching column. Great visuals, with the High Elf ambush in full swing.
The old scenario in question. The war machines section meant that my War Wagon couldn't do anything until Turn 3. It does say that in turn2 on a 4+ it can act, but I knew that wouldn't happen, and I was right.

Empire react to the ambush. I lost 4 Reiksguard knights to the elf metal magic. So the remaining knight charged alone towards the enemy mage, though he did get hacked down by the Dragon Princes.
Chariots charge into the Reiksguard on foot. Unsurprising, they held the line and eventually beat off and ran down the chariots.
My lovely War Wagon, unable to move or do anything. The halberdiers got off a cheeky charge against the flank of the spearmen. Though clearly the energy required to get there was too much and they fumbled big time the attack.
Reiksguard Foot knights stare down the Dragon Princes. The Draogn Princes would charge, but over a few turns, the Reiksguard would hold there own and eventually run them down.
The Outriders (in yellow) took a terrible toll on the elves. Two great eagles and a unit of archers would die to their volleys. They were incredible. After this photo, there was only a couple of thins left for the elves. The Knights Panther charged into the spearment (this is after they wiped out the Swordmasters and elf mage), and that was effectively game, with the elves only having some archers left.

I was a lovely game with a great opponent with fully painted armies and terrain. I think next time I will get more light to take better pictures.

We also had a chat about future games, and are planning in 6 weeks time to start are long awaited Eltharion vs Grom campaign. Here is the link to the old battle we played from the Warhammer 4th Edition starter set. I hope to progress this campaign here, with our take on the scenarios and forces used.

Anyways, thanks for looking.

Updating some older Empire models

Since the very productive first three months netted me a whole pile of painted Empire for Warhammer Fantasy, I thought I would touch up the paint job and rebase my existing Knights and characters so it will all fit together. Not a massive job, but for the sake of completeness, necessary.

First up is the mounted Valten and Ludwig Schwarzhelm. Mainly have used these as an Empire Grandmaster and mounted BSB.

Next up my big unit of Knights Pather. A lot of them had chipped paint and they also required shields as originally I didn't get round to it. Now all ready for the battlefield.

Big knight unit with characters.

That is probably it for Empire for the short term. Time to move onto another project for some variety.

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 8 Final Post

Well it has been 3 months and I managed to do it. Painted all my planned Empire for the Army Project challenge. It has been great having a focus to get some models painted. These Empire have sat here for decades so it was nice to get them out and give them some love.

So here is the last post, the army photo of all I painted in these last three months.

All up here is well over 1200 points, not too bad. Really like the colour and the banners. The bases also really tie everything together, from the war wagon to the archers.

And just for kicks, did an army photo like from the old Warhammer Armies book.

Its been great fun doing this project. I expect next will be some games with this Empire force, or maybe even a campaign! We shall see.

Thanks for looking!

Slow grow Warhammer Armies Project League Post 7

Well I finally did it. Finished the last unit for the army challenge. The War Wagon. What an amazing model. From the wagon itself to the crew it is just amazing. I decided to paint it in the classic colours from the old White Dwarf. Painting the crew in those colours was such a pleasure, a riot of colour. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

The base is a custom resin print that a friend did for me, 65mm x 115mm. Perfect to fit everything on it.

Love the classic scheme for these uniforms, such fun to paint.

It still does need the banners, but I have not been able to find a good enough scan of them to use and print, and I don't have the skills to paint it from scratch. Hopefully I will be able to get them at some stage.

Glad to get it done and it is an amazing center piece model. My last post will be an army pic.

Thanks for looking!
