30k Battle 1500pt Imperial Fists vs Alpha Legion

This was the first game form 2017 a few weeks back. We both took a lot of infantry, though I as usual went for my armour, and my friend went for shenanigans.  It was a relaxing fun game, where I broke my usual rule of fully painted and took a few wip units to try out. Namely an outrider squad and a Land Raider Phobos.

We decided to play a mission we hadn't played before, where each objective marker is randomly rolled at the end of the game to see what it was worth. Anything from negative to positive victory points. With 1500 pts a side, we went for it.

Imperial Fists 1500pts
Praetor in Terminator Armour, Storm Shield, paragon blade, digi lasers
Terminator command squad with storm shields in a Land Raider Phobos (my friend kindly let me have this option)

3 tactical squads in Rhinos

9 Outriders with power axes

Alpha Legion 1500pts
Dynat

5 Siege Tyrants

2 Tactical sqauds

2 veteran tactical squads with missile launchers

The deployment
Imperial Fists deployment, with my new bike squad.
Sneaky Alpha Legion deployment.
Alpha Legion 1st Turn
A tactical squad moves towards the centre of the board, while a hail of fire erupts from the Siege Tyrants inflicting 3 hull points on my new Land Raider. Some missiles also do a hull point of damage to a rhino as well.
Imperial Fists 1st Turn
With a roar, the armour all drive up to a couple of buildings that have the Alpha Legion holed up in. The bikes move up, but are a fraction of an inch from assaulting the building. It was also at this stage that I realised that my bikes probably couldn't assault up in a building.

Alpha Legion 2nd Turn
Everything opens up at the Imperial Fists tanks. The Land Raider amazingly suffers nothing from all the shots, while the tactical squad on foot assaults the lead rhino and wrecks it with a melta bomb.

Imperial Fists 2nd Turn
All out! 30 tactical marines hit the dirt, along with the Huscarls.
The bikes redeploy towards some outflanking tacticals.
The Huscarls assault the building containing the tactical squad, and wipe them out. The 30 tacticals let rip into the veteran tactical squad in the ruins, killing all but 3.
Alpha Legion 3rd Turn
A saboteur turns up, throwing some wretched concoction of demolitions, but fails to do any damage the the Land Raider.
The outflanking tacticals try and move away from the bikes, and open up on them. I believe they suffered a few casualties. The Land Raider finally goes down to the Siege Tyrants.

Imperials Fists 3rd Turn
Huscarls make a dash for the Siege Tyrants building.
The bikes redeploy in front of the saboteur.
At this stage you can tell I have lost a bit of armour in these tight streets. The bikes assault the saboteur and wipe him out. The 20 tacticals wipe out the veterans left over in the building on the bottom right. The other 10 tacticals hop back into the only functioning armour left and make for the other building with veterans in it.
Alpha Legion 4th Turn
Imperial Fists 4th Turn
Alpha Legion 5th Turn
The Siege Tyrants move to a better position and rain death on tactical squad 2, hunkered out side their building. 2 survive the onslaught.

Imperial Fists 5th Turn
Realising it is towards the end, and with the loss of the praetor and the Huscarls, the Imperial Fists begin preserving strength and hunker down on objectives.
Alpha Legion 6th Turn
The Siege Tyrants trudge out of their building to smoke the last 2 members of Tactical Squad 2. Otherwise they consolidate an objective.

Imperial Fists 6th Turn
The remaining marines just bunker down on some objectives, hoping they will be worth the price that was paid to secure them.

Final victory points.

Alpha Legion: 10
Imperial Fists 7

I know where it went down hill for me, though I was primarily trying out my new units. The bikes were a mixed bag of disappointment again. Though this time they weren't wiped out having achieved nothing, so I can't completely fault them. The Land Raider did a sterling job staying alive to turn 3, surviving all the Krak missiles. Definitely needs a paint job for such a heroic effort.

Close game in the end, and certainly had its swaying moments, but it came through for the Alpha legion in the end. Adalwulf will have his rewenge!

Something just for fun

Being rather nostalgic for my High Elf army of old, I picked up this Korhil model of the ol evilbay and gave him a touch up.

I just felt like painting some fantasy, and this model scratched that spot rather well. Hope you like.

I tried to add some design to his cloak, and black lined it so it would stand out a bit more.
Well, there you go. My first High Elf in years. Perhaps I might get round to assembling the Tears of Isha manner house for him to live in.

Thanks for looking.

A year in review

Well I acknowledge it is a bit late, I thought I would at least look at my hobby accomplishments for 2016, and for once set myself some goals for 2017.

Lets have a look at what I managed to paint for 2017.

I also managed to assemble some more for my Fists.

And make a start on a new army, the Sons of Horus.

Still, a very definite theme for 2016 was a lot of 30k. I am please with how my Fists came along, as I assembled and painted a lot of them. Plus I always love how they play and look in the game. I think all the games I had this year though were just 30k, so it would be nice to vary it a little for this coming year.

So some goals for 2017.

I'd really like to finish that Imperial Fist Land Raider.

I'd also like to make a start on that bike squad, despite its performance.

I'd also like to finish the Justaerin squad so at least it can be fully painted.

The last major goal I want it is to at least have one game of Black Powder, since I have quite a bit of Napoleonic British and Napoleonic French now. Obviously some painting to go with that as well.

We shall see what the year ahead brings.

Thanks for looking.

Huscarl banner bearer complete

I know I am meant to be working on the new army, but this model just kinda begged to be complete. I felt that Dorn and the Huscarl's needed a banner for the army, just to feel complete. The banner itself is from the 25th Crimson Fist anniversary model, which just was perfect for the model.

As always for my Huscarl's, I gave him the ceremonial cloak.

I had to green stuff the "Crimson" words ar the top of the scroll, glad you can't really see that.
As always, he as a storm shield, only the best for my Huscarl's! I also put something on the back of the banner, just to be a bit more interesting. I figure it is the name of all the Huscarl's that have fallen in battle. Or something like that.

I couldn't resist a group shot defending Dorn.
Hope you like!

SoH WIP I

I have finished assembling the last of the squad, and have even made an attempt at a colour scheme. As already stated, they will be painted black in the Justaerin style, but finding a good black scheme, other than just painting them black, has been quite difficult.

First up though, is the rest of the squad.

With these melta guns, I actually magnetised them, so I can swap them out for other kit, like heavy bolters and the like if I want, with out having to make another model kitted that way.

Now I have also had a go at a scheme. Here is the wip.

I'm worried it looks a little too grey, however, I need it to be 'lighter' so I can add some battle damage later. I am really happy with the left shoulder pad, as that turned out well. I also like my red. The base I am still wondering about. I was thinking metallic with red dust, but not sure.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Cheers!

The next project

I have been working on and off on my Imperial Fists for a long time now. So I thought it was about time for a change. My Imperial Fists had a very definite theme to them when I started them, being a mechanised force, all mounted in armour. The same would apply to my new force.

I'm not a big fan of 40k at the moment, whereas 30k for me is very exciting, and it seems to be the main game I play these days. So I thought I'd see what it was like on the other side of the fence and go for a traitor force. Admittedly, not many of the other legions really inspire me like the Imperial Fists does, but what does come close are the Sons of Horus.

I am however not too big a fan of the sea green (perhaps it will grow on me), but I am a real big fan of Horus and his Justaerin. So I figure, like people before me, that I'd go for an elite, chosen army of Justaerin. The colour scheme was also a big factor in them being chosen, no yellow.

So for my second Heresy force, I would play the ultimate bad guys. I have made a little progress, and made up some veterans, as although this is a 1st company, Justaerin force, they also did don power armour on occasions. I am also going to steer clear of armour, as that is what my Imperial Fists are, and go for a different play style, which just happens to be drop pod heavy (or dreadclaw heavy)

So here is the start of my force.

I wanted these marines to stand out as veterans, and put as many gubbins on them as possible. I wanted them to reflect being representatives of the best Legion, with that sense of merciless fighters.

I want to finish off this squad and then do a few test pieces to see if I can get a scheme going.

I have in my bits box for this force at present:
15 more veterans
10 Heavy support with lascannons
2 Dreadclaws
Malogurst (conversion)
Horus

I am planning on getting some (a few) Justaerin in Terminator armour soonish as well.

I am rather new to this play style, and Legion, so any pointers or comments would be most appreciated, especially in painting black.

Thanks for looking.
